Printable blank bookmarks

Seven and a half inches rather than the whole length of the paper, and the inch that gives up is the useful decision on this sheet. A bookmark as long as the page is nine and a half inches and does not fit in a paperback; seven and a half is a paperback plus a tab to hold. The paper that is left stays at the bottom of the sheet as paper — the cut lines have to mark where a bookmark ends, not where the page does.

They are blank because a bookmark is a thing a child makes rather than a thing we print. A reading target down one edge, the words being learned this week, a drawing of whatever is happening in the chapter — all of it belongs to whoever is reading. Print on card if there is any, and cut with a trimmer rather than scissors if there is one: a straight edge is most of what makes a home-made bookmark look deliberate.

Every rule, every box and every cut line on the page above is drawn as ink rather than as a background color, which is why it comes out of the printer looking like it does on screen: browsers throw background paint away unless somebody has ticked Background graphics, and a page of cut guides that printed invisibly is a page somebody cuts freehand. The lengths are in inches for a plainer reason still — a card that says it is three and three quarter inches wide is going to be measured, and a die that is not square does not fold up. The number in the footer is the seed the sheet was built from, so the identical sheet can be had again next term.
